Very close to the cave of Maravelia is a path with a history of more than 1000 years. This path parallels a stream called the “Stomio” stream. This stream runs through the village of Anafonitria and was the fastest route to the sea for the collection of sea salt, capers and fishing.
Even today, the stream “stomio” carries the sounds from the sea into the village of Anafonitria and at the site of the path there is a road.
This path was crossed by the monks of the old st georgios monastery to reach Anafonitria and later to the holy monastery of Anafonitria.
